“What is the purpose of my bar/bat mitzvah?” “Why are we doing this?” Were common questions I received from students. Families had other questions: how do I understand this process? What does a Jewish education mean for my child?
I attempted to address these questions with this project: to create a document that reflected our goal of Jewish education – a passport to their Jewish heritage, that granted them entry to the wider Jewish world. All of the education we were already doing was reflected and centralized into a single document. This passport helped students and families navigate the process clearly, and make the educational goals of our work more tangible. From a rough prototype of stapled papers, I took this idea to a talented designer who helped us realize our vision and create the document below.
